The first NGU lecture this year will be in the Observatory!
Speaker: Govert Schilling
Subject: Gravitational waves
Gravity waves - minimal ripples in space time - were predicted 100 years ago by Albert Einstein, but only measured by the end of 2015. Science journalist Govert Schilling traveled the whole world to record the story of their discovery – Nobel prize worthy science full of human drama. His book 'Ripples in Spacetime' was published last summer by Harvard University Press; The Dutch edition ('Deining in de ruimtetijd') appeared on 12 September at Fontaine Uitgevers. During his lecture, he talks about Einstein waves, pulsars, the big bang, laser interferometry and black holes.
