Google, Yahoo, Youtube, Hyves and Nu.nl, they all share one thing; a
huge number of visitors who
expect nothing more than an always working and responsive site.
IC&S is specialised in internet platforms and all the challenges that
come with the territory.
In our lecture we will tell you about the technologies that are
needed to keep these sites working.
When doing more then 200 million hits a day it's no longer about
computer power but rather
the design of infrastructures that allow such traffic. We will share
some of the insights about
large and high performance storage platforms (like Google
FileSystem), Thundering hurd problems
and livelock situations.
New buzzwords are popping up faster than companies are able to
implement them. Web 2.0 will
bring and is bringing lots of extra interactive features to web
applications, but has it's toll on the platform
side. We will show you some of the new technologies (like XML
firewalls) to handle the load
of these new internet features now and in the future.
As a lot of these subjects will be explained in much detail, a
(mostly) beta background
(i.e. computer science, maths, physics, CKI, etc) is preferable.
