The Oil&Gas Industry is marked by a high level of competition, a fluctuating oil price and an unknown future due to depleting fossil fuel reserves and increasing CO2 regulations. For an oil company, it is vital to determine if a project will be profitable. However, building an oil refinery or drilling platform will easily cost a few billion dollars. Needless to say, it is important to quickly and correctly estimate the capital costs of these huge projects before taking an investment decision.
In this lecture, it will be explained how capital cost estimation is envisioned in one of the largest oil companies. The emphasis of this lecture lies on cost estimation techniques. In addition, the challenges in designing an up-to-date IT system that delivers the final cost estimate will be discussed.
The lecture will be from 13:00 to 13:45. From 12:45 until 13:00 there will be free lunch available.
